Well, it goes beyond that. This is a "complicated story with no sub titles".
IV website is a board where people of all kinds visit and there is no control over stuff. Just go to any blog site - we see 100 rants and crazy comments as against a few wise talk.
I guess we have to live with it and keep pushing people. Sometimes loud and sometimes gently.
My friend, it is to "push the people" that I am saying all this. How best can we push? Through word of mouth, or thru full campaign?
Another idea: How about restructuring the forums?

I am seeing lot of heat and frustration out here and it is understandable to whole extent. First of all, I am a DC/MD/VA state chapter member and working towards achieving goals of getting GC in one year. Sounds funny right!!!! But it is true. We are working at grass roots with the National Leadership of IV to get things going at individual constituency level. I just posted this on another thread on IV. You might be knowing that DC Metro area should be having thousands of professionals making good money and stuck in this mess!!! Thousands!!! Do you know how many active members we have for this chapter!!! around 160!!!! Do you know how many turn up for weekly chapter meeting!!! 15!!!! But we are fortunate two have these 15 people who are putting their time and effort to talk to lawmakers.... These people also donate money. By the way these people are mix of EB 2 and EB 3. Do not try to create this division of EB2 and EB3. Some of the people running this IV have their green card but they are still putting in their time for you guys to lobby....It just takes 25$ each month to become donor but people don't want to do that. Don't think that IV will show you proof of concept for you to start donating. If you cannot volunteer, just keep quiet and wait for next VB. I also know that people cannot make to state chapter meeting because of commitments, distance etc. Understandable but have they asked state chapter via email what all they can do in their constituency to sort this out......Join State Chapter and see what all IV is doing...You guys have no idea what all is going on behind....If you think you can help...at least start donating and more important....start volunteering with your state chapter....If thousands of us start screaming to our lawmakers office....you will not need money to lobby anymore.....

This may sound optimistic and promising, but in essence sending random rhetoric using off message statements like "Erase Backlog Now" conflicts with our targeted messaging. To the observer on the Hill (i.e. in Congress) it all sounds more like a noise without a coherent message.
I'm sure you would agree that "no harm in trying" and "Leave no stone unturned" doesn't mean diluting our effort or sending incoherent message. That is why we need to have a single voice sending the same targeted message each time, otherwise we will just sound like awkward noise.
Can't agree less. We all have one goal. We are all one voice. In my personal opinion, I always try and stay optimistic.

This is true for all categories Including investor, asylum, Employment categories. Please note that It is Dept of State that is responsible for this allocation not USCIS.

First of all, when you land in Canada, do not tell them that you are there for a short while and you will go back to USA may be next day. They dislike it. I wasn't given the best treatment and they did not put a request for PR card in the system. It is their way of penalizing you for having Canada PR as a second option. I came back to USA very next day by road and called CIC Canda, they took my friend's address in Canada and mailed the PR card. She said, Immigration officer should have put a PR card request in the system. Canadian immigration officers very well know that there is 200 mile long GC line in the US and people are using Canada as a backup plan. I guess they dislike being a "backup plan".
Now, let us say that your US VISA is expired on your passport, you can still go to Canada and come back to USA after claiming your PR status in Cananda. Automatic VISA revalidation rule gives you the ability to come back to USA even with an expired VISA but approved I-797 under 2 conditions -
1. You stayed in Canda for less than 30 days.
2. You did not apply for US VISA in Canada and got rejected.
One more thing, when you fly back from Canada to USA, your immigration happens in Canadian airport itself. So you will land in US domestic airport and walk as if you are coming out of a domestic flight. Hope it helps. Good Luck.

I'm in pretty much in the same boat as some of the other posters here. I don't have a valid H1b in my passport, I-140/I-485 is pending. EAD/AP is approved. My landing visa for Canada expires in May.
Has anyone tried landing and returning to the U.S. while on pending I-485 by utilizing their AP yet? Any issues? I expect my POE to be Chicago. Any information would be much appreciated.
This is driving me nuts. I really *really* don't want to abandon the Canada option, but the information I've come across on the forums have left me very apprehensive. I applied for Canadian Residency so that I could sleep a little better at night for the next three years, but looks like I bargained for nightmares instead!

The compromised comprehensive immigration reform proposal faced strong challenge from Senator Cornyn before the bill collapsed in the Senate during the Easter break. Cornyn-Kyl bill and McCain-Kennedy has engaged in a fierce duel in the Senate Judiciary Committee and in the full Senate. The collision was marked by the legalization of illegal immigrants that are incorporated in the McCain-Kennedy bill.
By introduction of S. 2691, Senator Cornyn practically joins the original Bill Frist bill that strongly supported legal immigration and strongly opposed legalization of illegal aliens by focusing on the border security and the immigration enforcement. Question remains whether the legal immigration bill can pass the Congress as separate from the Comprehensive Immigration Reform legislation. We are concerned that this bill may bring a further division between the legal immigrant community and the illegal immigrant community with the potential damaging consequences to both legal and illegal communities. Ideally your employer should rescind your offer and buy you a ticket back home.
But in the IT industry, that is the reason most people still work with desi employer, even thouh they know that they will be taken advantage of.
Is it illegal? Yes. But there is a risk for the people involved.
Also, when someone tries to land H1 for the first time, it is really tough to find an employer who can apply 6 months in advance.Most american companies don't even go through the hassle unless they are hiring for non-IT positions. Then you have companies like Infosys who apply in bunches and keep them ready for the business they are expecting in future. Try and argue with them that they shouldn't do that as many people who have jobs lined up right now will not get H1s.
In my opinion most people who are on H1 n IT with american companies, either got in there via OPT- H1 or H1 transfer.
You gotta do what you gotta do. If you keep thinking about all deserving people,you would never take a step forward. At everypoint in life you will have certain options and every option woul cause some or other discomfort. Unless you are involved in clearcut criminal activity, everything else is fair, in my opinion.
Minimalist.. to begin with, I am not here to judge you or anyone else and I don't think sledge ever had those intentions. Hence, please don't take any of the comments personally.

I totally agree with you that no one on the face of this earth is a pure saint but ours (legal immigrants) is a small hardworking community, which most often understand each others pains, and that's the reason this forum exist.
Now, I ask you in the most humble way, what would you have done if your would-be employer had sponsored the visa but due to the lottery your application was never even selected for processing. To top that you learn from all over the world that companies like Wipro, Satyam and desi body shops applied for H1's, which they probably won't even use. Don't get me wrong.. I am a proud Indian and proud what these companies have archived..

If we dont get the GC yearly number increased for India , we should plan to go back,..
